Civic Chorus to mark anniversary

JACKSON- The Jackson Civic Chorus will present its 10th anniversary concert, "Music of the Decades," on May 17 at 8 p.m. and May 18 at 3 p.m. at the Jackson United Methodist Church, 68 Bennett Mills Road.

The suggested donations for tickets are $7 for general admission and $5 for seniors and students.

For more information call (609) 336- 7767 or send an e-mail to jmdiaz82@yahoo.com.

The chorus is celebrating a decade of presenting music to Jackson and the surrounding communities. In keeping with the celebration of the decade, director Jason Diaz has created a program of music representing the decades from 1920 to the present.

All are welcome to celebrate as the chorus, supported by piano accompanist Will Vanderburg, transports the audience across the years with an array of selections.

Among the selections will be "American Heroes: A Salute to the Armed Forces" featuring the anthems of the Navy,Air Force,Marines andArmy; "Defying Gravity" from the Broadway musical "Wicked"; a medley from the Broadway show "Jersey Boys," including "Oh What a Night," "Stay" and "Can't Take My Eyes Off You"; a medley of "Chattanooga Choo-Choo" and "On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe," "For the Beauty of the Earth" and "Prayer of the Children."

The chorus will be joined by the Jackson Civic Youth Chorus, a select group of seventh- to ninth-grade students from Jackson. The youth chorus will perform selections on its own and will join the civic chorus for the finale.

The Jackson Civic Chorus, sponsored by the Jackson Council for the Arts, is a community chorus composed of residents of Jackson and surrounding communities.
