Dog tourney coming to town

PLUMSTED - The 2008 Masters World Invitational Dog Sport Tournament Event for German shepherd dogs will be held on June 7-8 at New Egypt High School, 117 Evergreen Road.

Traditionally, the Masters World Invitational tournament is held in different locations of the nation or world and is a rare opportunity for local residents to view the competition live, according to Mayor Ron Dancer.

Thirty world class competitors will come from as far away as Asia and Europe, as well as from throughout the United States to participate and showcase the abilities and athleticism of the German shepherd.

Each phase of the competition will be judged in accordance with Olympic standards by three judges. The first place grand champion winner will be awarded a $10,000 cash prize, the mayor said.

In addition to the tournament, working K-9 dogs in law enforcement, search and rescue dogs and therapy dogs will demonstrate the versatility of the German shepherd. Admission to the tournament is free for Plumsted residents showing some form of ID for residency. For the general public, not residing in Plumsted, the admission fee is $10 and all children under the age of 12 are admitted free. Previewing and leading up to the MastersWorld Dog Sport Tournament in June will be the national competition to be held May 9-11 at Plumsted's Recreation Park.
