Resident cites garbage problem in Howell
In a recent letter to the editor, Nancy Clay of Howell lamented how the litter on the streets of Howell is embarrassing. I am concurring with her assessment 100 percent.

My wife and I like to walk around our neighborhood and we frequently comment to each other how much "garbage" is around the nonresidential areas where we walk.

For example, walking from Glen Arden east along Aldrich Road and crossing Route 9, the amount of coffee cups, plastic bags, bottles, paper litter, tree logs and small car parts is appalling.

Once the leaves have fallen, the town-owned areas on both sides of Route 9 along Aldrich Road look like a mini-dump field.

So, who's to blame? Just look at the parking lots around (a deli, a sub shop, a fast food restaurant) and the whole left-turn and Uturn plazas … and you'll begin to wonder.

I wonder if the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts would be interested in supervised cleaning up of all the intersection areas and main thoroughfares off Route 9. Maybe then people would start to feel like it's something they would like to keep clean. Right now the garbage invitesmore garbage. I'm not proud of my neighborhood right now.
