Intersection of County Line Road and Route 9 needs left-turn arrow When approaching this intersection heading east on County Line Road and a left turn onto Route 9 north is desired, one must wait for all traffic coming the opposite way on County Line Road heading west to pass. Most times, by the time the last car has passed and one can proceed to make the left turn, the light is changing from green to yellow to red or has already changed. Yet many motorists, having waited so long (sometimes two or three lights) before they can make the change, attempt to make the left as traffic on Route 9 (which now has the right of way), is starting up. The end result has been more than 155 accidents at this site. I have written many times to New Jersey State Department of Transportation Commissioner Kris Kolluri on the problem, with little results. So far, all that has been done has been some re-striping of the arrows on the road, but the green left-turn arrow light that is so badly needed does not yet exist. Public support is badly needed here, and if everyone who is reading this letter takes action and writes or calls the New Jersey DOT as well as state Sen. Robert Singer of Lakewood, and even Mayor Raymond Coles of Lakewood as well, perhaps the change might be made.
If not, more and more accidents will occur at this muchneeded site with growing traffic patterns and no arrow to allow a few of the waiting vehicles to make the left turn onto Route 9 while the cars from the opposite direction are held back for a small window. |
