• Breakfast, made to order, will be served at the American Legion Hall Post 455, 2 Meadowbrook Lane (Route 528 west across from Agway), Plumsted, on the first Sunday of every month from 7-11 a.m. Cost: $6 for adults; $3 for children under age 12; free for children under age 5. • An Old Time Antiques and Collectibles Faire hosted by the Ocean County Historical Society will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine, Aug. 30 at the Ocean County Parking Garage (between Hadley and Hooper avenues), Toms River. The family event will include food, antique appraisals at $5 per item, antique Engine Club, National Vintage Chrysler Products Club, antique car clubs and demonstrations of early crafts. Musical entertainment will be provided by Warm Hearted Country, various musicians from the Accoustic Musicians Guild, and barbershop quartet Mutual Accord. • All Saints' Episcopal Church, Second Street and Route 9, Lakewood, will hold its second annual Blessing of the Backpacks, Aug. 31 at the 10:30 a.m. service. Children, teens and adults can bring their backpacks, briefcases, laptop totes, etc. for a special blessing to kick off the school year. Details: 732-367-0933.

• The Ocean County Coin Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 4 (education) and Sept. 18 (coin auction) at the Ocean firehouse at Arnold and St. Louis avenues, Point Pleasant Beach. Education and coin auctions take place at the meetings. There is no charge for admission and all are welcome. A free coin auction program takes place for juniors at 6:45 p.m. before each meeting. • Immunizations for adults will be discussed by Dr. Kevin Berg from CentraState Family Medicine Residency Program from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Sept. 4 at the Orchards at Bartley's town square. • Jackson Day will be held Sept. 6 (rain date Sept. 7) at John F. Johnson Memorial Park, Jackson. The event will begin at noon with a parade from Holman School on Manhattan Street, into the park. Entertainment will feature a concert by Rocksplosion, a rock star tribute band, at 3:30 p.m. There will be 100 vendors with treats, games and rides. "Support Our Troops" donation barrels will be placed around the park to collect items for soldiers such as toiletries, videos, books, etc. A fireworks display will end the night. • The New Jersey Museum of Transportation's Pine Creek Railroad at Allaire State Park will hold its annual Railroaders Weekend, Sept. 6-7 at the park, 4265 Atlantic Ave. (Route 524), Wall Township. Trains will leave every half hour from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The event will feature vintage locomotives and trains, displays and exhibits. Train rides are $5 per person and everything else is free. • A free self-defense program using leverage techniques will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 13 at the Jackson Library, 2 Jackson Drive, Jackson, for girls age 12 and older who want to learn to protect themselves from street attacks and personal assaults for self-defense. Daughter and mother pairs are welcome, in addition to college-bound girls. The class will be taught by black belt instructor Walter Miller. Class size is limited. • Jackson AMVETS (American Veterans) Ladies Auxiliary Post 2 will host an indoor/outdoor flea market and craft show from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 27 at the post home, 1290 Toms River Road (Route 571), Jackson.
