Alternate route certification offered

For those who have a bachelor's degree and would like to become a teacher, the Alternative Route to Teaching program offered at Ocean County College can help them to become licensed without completing a traditional teacher-training program.

An information session will be offered at 7 p.m. Jan. 22 in the Tech Lecture Hall, Technology Building, Ocean County College Main Campus, College Drive, Toms River. Pre-registration is required. Admission is free. Seating is limited.

OCC has partnered with New Jersey City University to offer New Pathways to Teaching in New Jersey. Students attend classes on OCC's campus and may choose to take the program either as a teacher certification requirement or for graduate-level credit toward a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from NJCU.

In order to quality, candidates must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in an arts and sciences field for elementary education or a major in the field for subject area license and a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher. Other requirements apply.

Registration is required. For more information, call 732-255-0477.
