Business Briefs Supergym will host its first Community Adventure Bootcamp scheduled for July 7 at 6:30 p.m. in Pine Park, Lakewood. This community initiative to get active during the summer months, sponsored by Supergym, invites members and nonmembers to participate in the one-hour class that will range from strength and endurance drills to abs and stretching. Participants are asked to preregister in person at Supergym, and to bring water and a beach towel or mat for the core exercises and ending stretches. Details: 732-534-4904. The Lakewood Chamber of Commerce recently presented scholarships to Brianna Clark and Ciara King, both students at Lakewood High School. The chamber scholarship committee chose these students from applications submitted to the committee by the high school. Kenneth R. Auerbach, of E&K Agency of Eatontown and Lakewood, has been named Professional Agent of the Year by the Professional Insurance Agents of New Jersey. Auerbach is a managing director and the general counsel at E&K. He was honored for his contributions and commitment to the insurance industry. Auerbach also serves as president of the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents. Freehold Triumph, 4413 Route 9, Freehold Township, is an official dealer for the 2010 Triumph Thunderbird, a brand-new 1600cc cruiser motorcycle. Limited quantities of this motorcycle will be available for 2010. The Triumph Thunderbird first gained national prominence in the 1950s by being featured in "The Wild One" with Marlon Brando. Jessie Armstead, a former member of the New York Giants and owner of Hamilton Honda, celebrated the grand opening of Hamilton Honda at 655 Route 130 north, Hamilton Township, on June 9. The Lakewood Development Corporation, the administrative arm of the Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ), is offering the public a free small business seminar, "Premiere Business Services," on June 22 from 10-11 a.m. in conference room C at the Lakewood municipal building, 231 Third St., Lakewood. The workshop, given by New Jersey Office of Information, will lead participants through the steps to enable them to interact in real time with multiple state agencies through a secure login. Attendees will also have one-stop access to all New Jersey electronic tax filing and payment services for their business along with access to filing and payment history. A question-and-answer period will follow. All businesses are welcome to attend whether or not they are participating in a UEZ program. Bartley Healthcare, 175 Bartley Road, Jackson, and The Orchards at Bartley, 100 County Line Road, Jackson, are drop-off sites for a statewide food drive through June 30. All food collected will benefit the agencies of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. Items requested are shelf-stable products that are not expired, canned fish and meet, powdered milk and infant formulas, boxed meals like pasta, potatoes and rice, canned meals like macaroni and cheese, chili, stews, and meaty soups, peanut butter in plastic jars, canned fruits and vegetables. No glass or cellophane can be accepted. Items can be dropped in the box in the lobby of Bartley Healthcare, 175 Bartley Road, Jackson, or The Orchards at Bartley, 100 County Line Road, Jackson, before June 30. Calgo Gardens, 84 Cross St., Lakewood, will sponsor a weekly farmers market from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Friday from June 12 through Sept. 30. The market will include fresh vegetables and fruit straight from local farms, along with homemade peanut butter, breads, pasta, jellies and jams, honey, and a variety of teas made by a local herbalist, among many other items. In honor of National Nursing Home Week in May, Bartley Healthcare, Jackson, held a variety of special events intended to nurture the relationships between residents, employees and the outside community. Events included a classic car showcase and hosting a community-wide bake sale to benefit The Great American Bake Sale, a program working to stop childhood hunger in the United States. Through the generosity of Bartley Healthcare employees, residents and family members, and the local community, Bartley Healthcare donated $1,000 toward the Great American Bake Sale program. The New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners has announced the appointment of three Monmouth-Ocean Chapter members on the state executive board. The installation of the NJAWBO 2009-10 officers took place June 3 at the NJAWBO's annual conference. Those members and their positions are: Jackie Berman, Cartridge Renewal Systems, Manalapan, vice president of membership; Judy DeFeo, JADDE Financial Solutions Inc., Marlboro, vice president of finance; and Dawn Nakash, Daybreak Marketing Services Inc., Jackson, vice president of nominations. The NJAWBO is the oldest statewide organization in New Jersey with a mission to address the concerns and issues of business ownership by women. The organization's objectives are to encourage and support business ownership by women, enable women business owners to network, provide a legislative voice for the interests of women-owned businesses, and provide entrepreneurial training and assistance.
